The selfsufficientish oscars

Post: # 48601Post Andy Hamilton »

Right it is award season at the moment and with no prizes or ceremony and no media coverage, no red carpet its time for the selfsufficintish oscars.

Anyone can vote for anyone in any catagory and the winners will be announced around the same time as the oscars (or a bit after if I forget)

Post your votes here.

Copy and paste the categories above into your reply along with the members name that you wish to vote for.

Please note: it is just a bit of fun so try not to get offended if you don't win or get voted for in a category that you would rather not be voted for.

ok then I will get the ball rolling

Best newbie - Sal some interesting posts
Most interesting poster - Hats off to muddy here I generally take a look to have a laugh.
Biggest user of smilies - always seems that Martin has a lot and as one of the prolific posters he must have used the most.
Most off the wall poster - Boots!
Most helpful poster - Tricky will have to say Wombat (Nev) this is purley for me as he has been here from the very start and has helped get the forum running, a close second again from my point of view is shirlz for similar reasons to nev.
Most interesting use of the English Language - myself for my spelling

Red - Straight talker, with values and good sense of humour
Most interesting poster
Yep, Have to agree I look for Muddy's posts too!
Edited to add: Can't forget Gunners!!! I like catching up on his activity... he's always doing heaps.
Biggest user of smilies
No doubt about this - Has to be Chilli. She has the best collection, and uses them the most effectively. Martin doesn't emote... he contorts. Has anyone actually tried doing his favourite combo? Goes like this...  Go on try it....
Most off the wall poster
 I dunno what this one means... and I got it. Off the Wall... Does that have something to do with Pink Floyd's techno trips??? I just asked my pommie mate and he says he's not sure either... so i will just give it back to Andy. If he can give it, then I guess he'll be happy to take it back.
Most helpful poster
This is a toss up between Nev and Shirlz. They both extend themselves and offer a lot of support.
Most interesting use of the English Language
Rough Jack. I can 'hear' him heaps easy.
Most cynical poster
I think Muddy would be quite miffed I didn't give it to him. He works very hard at keeping his cynicism muscle in good shape.
Weirdest avatar
Well, a while back there was an avatar with what looked like a hand talking to itself, maybe... I asked about it... but it just disappeared. Can't remember who had it...
Biggest sulk
mmm, sad to say, but that has got to go to John. Folks can be a bit obsessive or eccentric or whatever and I accept that - they still have heaps to offer and deserve a hearing - but sooky la las just need their bums smacked.

And I don't think we can have Awards without the Wooden Spoon...

Wooden Spoon Award goes to Martin. Definately the biggest stirrer here!

me - for being the typo queen - i usually have to edit quick before I have the mick taken for something that came out really the wrong way!
most cynical poster
Boots - I still chuckle over that chocolate teapot post. ok its not really being cynical - more sarcastic - but still tis good enough for me

i'm not going to vote for the others in case it incriminations me!

I will probably think of other people as soon as I post this, but here goes:

Best newbie - Jack, for his fantastic photos of his trip to Australia and his brilliant tongue in cheek sense of humour

Most interesting poster - too many to choose from!

Biggest user of smilies - I never really notice them!

Most off the wall poster - not sure what this means. Could be Martin! Could be Boots! Could be John!!!

Most helpful poster - Everyone!

Most interesting use of the English Language - Andy because (1) he wants to win this and (2) I will always chuckle over his 'Christmas Reef'!

Here's my twopennarth worth....
Best newbie - Jack, he makes me chuckle and has an, er, interesting take on the world
Most interesting poster - Muddy, a vast array of subjects deserve/ask for the muddy treatment. Often funny and insightful in a single sentance but (almost) always thought provoking. His are the first posts I click on more often than not.
Most off the wall poster - Hedgie and stoney can hold their own here difficult to choose, but off the wall in a nice way....like a muttering uncle kind of way.....no slight intended.
Most helpful poster - well this is a difficult one, you have stoney and shirlz in the blue corners and Nev and Boots in the red corners, Muddy's in there too but iv'e run out of corners....

kind thought (and i hope i haven't upset anyone)

Flippineck! I feel a bit humbled (so far) - the thought that people are actually reading my posts is terrifying. I fear I shall be incapable of anything inteligible from now on. So I s'pose I'd better make me own nominations:

Right, these are the ones that fit into some special categories, most of which I've just made up:

Most Interesting Poster - I don't suppose there's a single post of Boots that I'd let pass by; always something worth reading. Gird yer loins, gal, I'm yours.
Sanest Poster Out Of The Lot Of Us - Nev, this has gotta be you. Always worth reading, level headed, affable and helpful.
Poster Most Up For A Decent Agrument - Well, 'sobvious innit - Martin, this looks like it belongs to you.
Most Creative Use Of The Inglish Langwage goes to Andy, for making my spolling luke gude.
Most Startling Avatar - Stoney, you handsome bugger, my monitor keeps going on the blink when your face appears.
Most Prolific Use Of Inappropriately Sized Photos That Disappear Off the Side Of The Screen And Cause Dial-Up Users To Tear Their Hair Out currently goes to that roughian Jack.

Wulf, Dave, Shirlz, Shiney, M3, Ina, Hedgewizard, Gunners, and a few others also get yer asses in 'ere for services above and beyond the call of duty.

The rest of yous, make up your own categories and fit yourselves into 'em.

Doing this is actually pretty divisive, isn't it? There are lots of others I should mention - lots of them - for making me want to hang around in this forum. I can't think of a single regular poster here that doesn't add something positive. In fact I don't recall seeing an irregular one that I wouldn't say that of.

Gidday

Well this here is sure a hard thing for me to participate in cos I just don't get time to look at everything. I have a fairly narrow field of interest so for me to say someone was best something when I probably read less than half of the posts would be unfair to the majority.

However I will be following this one with interest as I have already seen some people mentioned that I have not even read any of theire posts.

Make sense, probably not as I often don't.

But Muddypause has brought up a point I will freely plead guilty to. I use photobucket and do exactly the same thing as I do on some other forum but on here those photos are just outrageously huge. What am I doing wrong, apart from eatin me sheeps heads.
Cheers

Glad you took that in good heart, Jack. I don't know why the same pics would be different sizes on different forums, but there are a few ways round them being too big on this one.

Before you upload them to photobucket, you could resized them in an image editor or viewer. If you don't have one, IrfanView is a good free viewer (load a copy of the the picture into the viewer, go Image/Resize and resize it to something more appropriate. Then Save - this will permanently change the image size, so use a copy of the original if you don't want to change the original). Now load it up to photobucket as usual. On my screen resolution, something around 700x450 pixels will fill the screen, but 350x225 pixels, or thereabouts, usually works well.

For images already on photobucket, you can edit them to a smaller size, but they seem to have limited the options for this recently (I've only got the free account).

But photobucket (and other photo hosts, too) do have a neat 'thumbnail' option. Check the box bellow all the photos you want a thumbnail for, then click the button at the bottom of the page "Generate HTML and IMG code". You will be given some code to include in your message; choose the version headed "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended" and simply copy&paste that into your message where you want the picture to appear. Now your message will have clickable thumbnails, and people can view the fullsized image if they want to. This is prolly the best option if you have a lot of photos to show.

Gidday

Well I am very sorry folks but this must look like a high Jack, not that I am though.

Muddypause, thank you for your advice. I think it looks like I have to change the image size of everything for this sight and it didn't make the difference I feared on the other site either.

Now after that I just gotta vote in this Oscar thingie.

I VOTE:

Most helpfull: = Muddypause.
Cheers

Pssst Nev....
um, they're not real pearls mate... just lil bits of clay painted up pretty like.

Had to search Gird your loins, and... as I suspected... it was a phrase from a looooooooooooong time agooooooooooooo... (before records and all that  )

But I can't copy and paste the 'how to'... :? (I'm guessing Stoney's been onto them and they are thinking they can claim copyright on info that remains public knowledge...) so I will just go and gird so I can be on the ready. I'm trusting you will be scheduling tea breaks, Muddy.
