Hi folks,
Jirvo and the Digger have just spotted this site while doing some research on seed potatoes.
We have an allotment in Plymouth on a south facing slope - half of it is now set out in deep beds (much back breaking last year!), while the other half needs working on. So we decided on potatoes (to clear the ground) and have just bought some seed spuds and some cheaper supermarket ones. We are going to try a little experiment, so hope to keep you posted. And if anyone has any tips or advice - all welcome! Must say great idea about the straw bales Rough Jack!
Great site by the way.

Hello there and welcome. Shop bought potatoes do work and I have used them in the past. Howerver, if you are planting a whole plot full of them then keep a watchful eye out for blight. Bought seed potatoes are grow at high altitudes to reduce the risk of blight.
#i like the idea of the no dig alltoment if you have a problem with weeds. break up a cardboard box and put it flat on your plot. cover it with compost and plant your seedlings or seeds in the compost. The cardboard will break down and the roots will grow through it and the cardboard will retard growth for the weeds.

First we sow the seeds, nature grows the seeds then we eat the seeds. Neil Pye
