A quality site you have here guys. I'm glad I found it.
I'm David; born in 1981; currently living in Dublin, Ireland; a single, eligible, considered-cute (...hang-on; this isn't really the place for that - is it?

- just kidding ladies).

I am very much interested in self-sufficiency, and I will probably be asking lots of questions here over time. I look forward to talking to ye, and very well-done on the site!

Hi shiney,
I don't have space to grow much at the moment (I live in a terrace house), but I've been experimenting with wild plants lately - and haven't poisoned myself yet, thankfully. So apart from ....emmm ....hair and nails, I amn't growing anything.
My interests? Computers and music would be two of the main ones (..you can listen to some of music on my site - it's entirely non-commercial, don't worry ). Aside from those, I'd say my interests are not too far-removed from the rest of you here (..actually, come to think of it - most people are into music as well, aren't they - whether or not they actually make it? ). I'm just attempting my second series of home-brewed beers. The first were somewhat dismal ( actually they were very dismal to be honest ), but I've decided to give it another shot.
I won't bore you with too much else for the moment.

Single - yeah, but roughly twice your age...

So don't worry.

There's quite a few others interested in beer making, I'm sure you'll find some good advice. I've never tried beer myself (the making of it, I mean!!!), but I have made wines and other alcoholic stuff. I suppose I enjoy really good beer too much to spoil the fun by making crap and then feeling obliged to drink it!

If you're in a terraced house, I'm sure you'll have at least room for a few containers. You could try growing hops for a start... Nothing like a special interest. Or herbs, good to impress you future not-so-single lady with when you are cooking your first meal for her!

, or foraging for wild edible plants? If so, what have you tried?

You must try container planting. It's easy peasy. Not too late to start even now.

Millymollymandy, it's mostly foraging I've been trying. I've been trying a lot of different plants to be honest - too many to list!

couscous, the closest thing to jazz on my site are some compositions you can find here. They're closer to the 'Easy Listening', cheesey type of music than the jazz I suspect you're interested in. If you're the kind of person who puts Miles David or John Coltrane on his/her alarm clock (..like someone I know), then don't bother - it wouldn't be your kind of thing. It's cool that you had a gander at the site all the same.

wombat, ina - I look forward to talking to you some more. I'll think some more about the possibility of container gardening.

I'm in a bit of a rush at the moment ( ..trying to catch up with news on the G8 protests at the same time, before I head out the door ).

Hello from County Kerry, Ireland.

Hey! I like this Margo avatar. I fancied Barbara when I was a boy but now that I'm older I appreciate Margo big hair and big umm dressing table.

I live near Sneem, which is on the coast. I have an acre of land with a kitchen garden. The rest is filling up with apple trees and firewood trees. I built a boat last year and fish in the bay for mackerel.

Still insulating the house for the coming winter. When I have that finished I can work on the renewable energy projects I have lined up.

I'm a newbie to the site too - only joined a few days ago, but WHAT a great site it is. Everyone is very friendly.

I've just been looking at your blog site - WOW it will take me ages to read it all, but I WILL because what I've seen just for the last few days has been fascinating. I've bookmarked it.

I've never been to Ireland but would love to do that one day - my grandfather is from Co Mayo and I'd like to go and see what it's like there.

welcome James and David.....I'm from Galway but now live in Merseyside in England. This is a very cosmoplitan site with folks from many countries and climates. I'm so envious of you living in Kerry James...apart from anything else the diving there is amazing !

Mayo is nice. Quite untouched. You must do the walk up Croagh Patrick. Barefoot of course. It hurts. A lot.

I do a bit of snorkeling when it isn't frrrreezing. The water is very clear and full of wonderful wildlife.

I look forward to reading the posts on this site and sharing ideas with people.

I like what I've seen of your website so far - but I need a quiet weekend to read it all... Oh well, maybe next month - or year. Too busy at the moment.

Just started reading on your car/diesel etc thingy - and that reminded me that a long time ago I read about a really efficient car made by VW - it just didn't take off (no pun intended!

) because folk thought it too spooky that the engine turned itself off whenever it stopped, at lights etc! Do you remember anything about that? I need a car, unfortunately; living too far out and not quite being resigned to a life as a recluse yet; but I'd love to buy a phantastically efficient one next time. So if you have any news for me... Any tips are welcome.
