A word of warning!!

Dont step on bees!!

Last weekend I was walking around outside in bare feet, when I stepped on a bee (well I'm pretty sure it was a bee, it stung me and it left the stinger, so I assume it was, I didnt actually see it). It stung me on the underside of my middle toe, which was pretty painful being such a sensitive place. Anyway, my OH pulled out the stinger and we slapped on some antihistamine cream, and it was all good.

Until later that night....when my toe started swelling up and going red. The next morning my foot was going all puffy and red near the base of my toe. It was also fairly painful in a burning way. So later in the day we went off to the docs, by then the red and swelling was almost up to my ankle. Turns out I'd gotten an infection from the sting and have now been given some fairly hefty antibiotics to get rid of it. 6 days into the 7 day course of antibiotics I'm still not fixed, though the infection is much better, but it still looks like I'll be going back for more.

So don't step on bees!!

Poor you! I have stepped on a bee and been stung, and run straight off to the chemists expecting my foot to explode, but nothing happened! I have a bad reaction to wasp stings, but not to bees it seems.

Gidday

My guess is the the poison sac was pulled off and the sting, which has tiny barbs on, was left in the foot. Always be very careful when trying to get a bee sting out.

Not a good feel when you react bad to a sting.

The infection may have been due to the skin being punctured - your body was suddenly opened up to all the nasties lurking in the dirt!

Hopefully the medicine will get it sorted out before too long.

Thanks for your kind wishes.

Got another appointment with the docs tomorrow to get it checked out, its still slightly red and a bit sore just around the sting site. It might clear up on its own now, which is what I'm hoping. But we'll see what the doctor says.
