Starting down the road to being greener

Post: # 47175Post Mintscum »

Hiya guys. I'm just starting off down the road to being greener. So far I've sewn some hankies from my 2 year old daughter's cast offs, am planning to grow tomatoes in our porch, and have turned the central heating right down (and hbby's not noticed the difference)( I'd love to hear what other people are doing to make an 'average' homeless harmful to the environment. I don't have a smallholding though I'mproud of those who do. I live in an end terrace victorian flat with my hubby & two kids, (the other is 6). So here I am saying hello & enjoying the journy so far.

Hello and welcome. Sounds like you are making some positive moves towards a greener life. One thing that you can do is try and get shopping from your local greengorcer if you have one. The food miles are generally lower than in a supermarket and it is supporting local business, some things are cheaper too.

Is it a secret, then? OK, I won't say anything. Mum's the word.

Before I had my own yard and was able to have a large compost pile I was able to compost most of my kitchen scraps using a worm composting bin. When done right, it won't smell and there are no flys so you can do it indoors.

You can switch your light bulbs for energy saving ones, and ensure your appliances are working efficiently.

A good one is to "waste not want not" - try to use everything entirely - from cleaning products to kitchen (find a use for everything).

You can also switch your cleaning products to the good ol' vinegar and bicarb etc.... works great!!
