Turmeric

Post: # 47091Post the.fee.fairy »

I've gota piece of turmeric that i saved from an indian spice kit, its about the size of the top of my little finger.

It looks like it grows in much the same way as ginger, and its got a knobbly bit on it.

Anyone tried growing turmeric? Anyone got any tips? At the moment, my plan is to put it in a pot on the radiator (with the lychees!) and see if it grows.

If anyone's got any better ideas, throw them this way! I've also got a piece of ginger i fancy growing as well, so i'll search out the linkage for that from a previous discussion.

G'Day Fee,

I have grown ginger not turneric. Does you nit have a sprout/growing point on it?

Your idea sounds reasonable to me!

Hi Fee,

yes it's the same family as ginger here's a link i've found

http://www.greenharvest.com.au/Plants/t ... _info.html

I was growing ginger on my kitchen window cill, but the cold night time temp has turned the foliage brown. It's now at work on the window cill, as the heating is on all night!. Not much happening as yet.

I've also brought one of my cayenne chillie plants in from last years crop. It loves it ,its flowered and I have 4 cm chillies on it already and it's only January!.
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

blimey!

Nice work

Nev - it has a knobbly bit on the top so hopefully, that'll be where it buds from. I've planted it now, so fingers crossed!

I hope it grows, and smells like turmeric, i love the smell!
I planted the ginger from the kit too, so hopefully, i'll have some of both by autumn!
