ANGER!
ANGER!
Arrrgh! My meathead neighbours fence has blown over onto my herb garden (admitedly not his fault), so I neatly prop the rotten old fence panel against his fence on his side and put up a temporary bit of chicken wire so my dogs don't go into his garden, then tend to the herbs that are left. I just wander into the garden and the stupid b*****d has taken the panel and dumped it over my garden again, squashing the chicken wire fence and the remaining herbs. AAAAARGH I AM SO ANGRY. Sorry, had to get this off my chest.

better it is vented here than on your neighbour, especially if he is bigger than you
I would too be wound up.

Idiot!
Is there any milage in taking said fence panel round to the front door and asking if he's lost anything? or are the neighbours a rough lot (Norwich being what it can be!)

Inside the heart of each and every one of us there is a longing to be understood by someone who really cares. When a person is understood he or she can put up with almost anything in the world. by Rev Hird

Personally, I think going down the litigation route should be right at the bottom of the list (well, perhaps Nev's shooting option is a bit lower). Before you consider anything like calling the police in (they realy won't be impressed with you) or going to law (lawyers love boundary disputes; they are invariably the only ones to gain anything from them), consider some more pragmatic options.
I have no idea what your neighbour is like, or what history exists between you, but don't exclude from your mind that this may be just a minor misunderstanding. Maybe he didn't realise that this was the result of the wind, and thought something else had gone on. Maybe he doesn't realise that the fence is his resposibility (this can sometimes be difficult to establish). Maybe he tried putting the panel back in place, only for the wind to do its stuff again. Maybe all sorts of things...
But really, it is worth trying to preserve good relations with your neighbours, even if it does mean doing a bit more than your share towards this. Having neighbours who war with each other is something to be avoided if at all possible.

As usual Muddy makes sense and I agree, but if all else fails, consider my other option......

yeh muddy is spot on.. be careful how you proceed - you will feel a bit daft if it turns out to be your fence...
for a truly depressing experience go to gardenlaw.co.uk and read some of the forums... some people have truly terrible relationships with their neighbours.. and half the time I think it came out of a misunderstanding...

I totally agree... a silly argument many years ago with an ex neighbour has ruined a potentially good friendship for me. Always give the benefit of the doubt unless you are absolutely sure... and then give that benefit again. If you can't talk to your neighbour then drop him a line - as MP says.. it could have been the wind at fault once again.Muddypause wrote:But really, it is worth trying to preserve good relations with your neighbours, even if it does mean doing a bit more than your share towards this. Hello everyone, you'll be pleased to hear I've calmed down now :) and thanks for your advice.
I hope that he did just try to put it up again badly and the wind blew it back down. I left it until yesterday afternoon for something to happen and finally strung the thing back up again myself. Won't hold for too long but it's something for the time being.
Fingers crossed this will all blow over soon ('scuse the pun

I went to a pub in Lynn once and Kate Adie was doing the door....
