unique animal bedding

Having just come back from a freind of mine,(i am goat sitting) i noticed a new sort of bedding she is using.
Being curious, i looked on the packaging for a website so i could investigate, and found a good product that i thought i would share with you its www.c2enterprises.co.uk

it is aimed at getting disabled people into work, and as a wife of a disabled husband and someone that is in to recycling i thought it would be good to use the product. it is also locally based (for me) in cumbria

It looks like a good scheme. I make my own recycled chicken bedding from shredded paper. However I only have 2 chickens. I don't think I could generate enough shredded paper to bed a pony or anything bigger.

Hi Chickpea
I am in the process of acquiring my first chickens. I wondered about bedding them on shredded paper as we get sackfulls in the office. Have you found it to work ok?

not chickpea but flower,

anyway...my chickens like it in their nextboxes.
my guinea pigs love it in their cages and their run. it was recommended for them by our vet to reduce the chances of wheeziness, eye infections and mites.
It composts beautifully and aids water retention beneath crops such as beans.

in the chicken run during winter (where it can get like the Somme) we use a hemp by product called Aubiose. It is far more absorbent that anything else we've tried. It's also very cheap and is available from 'horsey' type places.

Thanks for that, Flower. My chicken run is a mud bath at the moment and they haven't even been out there yet. So I will definitely need to get something to help them before they drown in the mud

I have put paper in the nest boxes but they just pull it out and spread it all around the floor with the wood shavings. I've used paper out of our shredder here at work but it only shreds one way so it makes long thin strips like spaghetti. It's really funny watching them trying to walk in it as it keeps tangling around their legs. I shall have to find a way of shredding it down into smaller bits.

We're about to have real bedding issues here with the horses as the lumber mills have begun burning their shavings for fuel. Cost effective for them, but for livestock owners it's really putting some stress on us! I use straw for the sheep as it's easier to get out of their fleece, but the horses would do better in shavings; deeply bedded shavings...
