cat food - sachets or tins?

mine wont eat dried food. thats why I did not list it as an option

yeh I think those sachets are filled with cat drugs.. cos they love em. but much more expensive.

still I wonder about the relative cost to the enviroment.. making and recycling tins vs making and landfill sachets. now if I could think of a way to REUSE the sachets... but I cant...

Seem to have got a new cat tonight, me & h got home & heard some mewing, thought it was h cat in the house "h cat comes up with her 2 or 3 times a week" but it was a kitten abt 3 months old,v freindly.Let it in & fed it, has a cut above its eye,have bathed with saltwater,may need the vet. Rang a neighbor with cats,not hers. So may have a cat! Have had loads of cats,dident really want 1 just now though. H is keen to keep it,we,ll see! Sorry cat food---- mix of tins & dry, use cardbord for stove lighting & have used tins for trees. cats do seem to love sachets but too expensive & plastic ends up in landfill. Bics good for teeth but just dry food,think can cause kideny probs. A. PS H,s cat barney is scared of it

ohh do check with local rescue centres and vets.. someone might well be looking high and low and be heartbroken over that cat.

and it might be chipped. a vet could tell you. and then you can find its home easily

Yep,rang the vet this morn,nobody missing a cat.Think she's a farm kitten,she stank of cow shed.H gave her a wipe with a flannel & bit of wupliqid & myrr oil.Her eye is looking lots better,shes lucky,the cut was v close to the eyeball.!! Is still eating a huge amount,just hope she's too young to be pregnant!!!! Will have to get her spayed & wormed & start buying cat food again,mmmm more expense!!! But she's v cute & ive allways been a sucker for strays,i once had 4 dogs & 6 cats,mostly strays & rescue,never again though!!. Barney likes her now they were playing last nite.A.

I have 2 very determined cats who have dried food in the morning (some stuff to help keep their kidneys functioning OK and to help prevent hairballs - they are both long haired) because that doesn't get smelly in the hot summer days (remember those?) and I have tried oh so many times to keep them on that because it comes in a bag that I can use for rubbish later.

But of course like many cats & old fogeys they don't like change ("you trying to kill me or what " ) and I haven't managed to wean them off their evening meal of tinned food that the persian (given to me) arrived addicted to (only available in small tins, of course!) and that the hairy moggy decided was what he could only eat. But every time they have just sat there staring at me accusingly and bringing in takeaways (if only these tins came in mouse/robin/pigeon flavours then I'd not be wondering how a cat would catch a cow - but that's another issue).

So on balance I decided that, while I'd like to feed them the crunchy stuff with less waste (albeit less recylable waste), recycling tins (thankfully the variety isn't available in sachets or I'd have THAT dilemma!) is better than reducing the local wildlife.

It is mainly toms that get affected (they have less space to pee through if they get the crystals) but it can happen to female cats too. If a cat is fed dried food from kittenhood they tend to be okay, if they are switched from wet to dry the don't know to drink enough water and this is what will cause the problem. This I know from experience. Cats we've had from kittens are fine but one rescue we took in gets the crystals and is on a special diet now.

If you have a kitten then go for the dried food option, but if you have an older cat that is used to tins I wouldn't switch.
