hellooo from south wales

Post: # 4091Post Azura Skye »

Hi there,

Im a fine art student in Newport, and for my third year am moving to cardiff, to a teeny tiny flat where I hope to grow some herbs and veg on the windowsills (this is how I found the site).

Im originally from west Wales, near Carmarthen, and was brought up on a small holding. We have a big garden, which my dad is the master of, used to have lots of chickens and ducks but the fox became a big problem, and we need to put up some more fences if we want chickens again.

We did have vietnemese pot bellied pigs which worked a treat scaring the fox, but theyve passed away now, god bless em (they were also the main factor in my turning vegetarian, much to my german meat eater father's delight. Especially when I tamed the chickens and bought them and the pigs into the house :)

We now have two Kune kune piggies (not for the table) but they are mixed with another breed as they are hhhuuugee, but I love em to bits.

Hope to turn myself as self sufficient as possible :P

Great site

Newport isn't too bad, a bit of a Chav City, which is why I'm very excited to move to Cardiff. Then perhaps Bristol after that, as my boyfriend would like to work there.

And piggies are indeed great pets, although my dad does threaten to pop their clogs as they werent supposed to be rooters, and they turned our field into a mud bath. But I think even he loves them really because they have great characters.

supercigs is indeed still here.

Bristol is lovely, I've only been there a few times recentely, and passing on the train I naturally spotted them allotments that are everywhere - and I sighed and thought an allotment, sigh, how great! :)

well good luck finding a place, let me know what the flats and stuff are like, difficult to find etc? Because I might be doing the same thing in 12 months. :-)

Welcome too Azura Skye, (great name btw)

I think pigs are great creatures, I am not too happy around cows and 'orses. I am really frightened of them. Piggies I can handle.

Nev, you need to know about Chavs. (basically how to avoid them) I am trying to find a site for you to look at. I am sure Azura will describe them in brief for you!

Welcome Azura Skye

I've just found this place too, very useful and very friendly.

I'm in Bristol and there are some lovely lotties indeed. A friend has a plot on one of the big sites you pass coming into Bristol - there are a few wild and untamed spots up for grabs there if you ever make it over the border

And for anyone who's unsure what a chav is, then check this -

A bit excessive methinks but quite amusing in parts

hehe - 'good' website bean :)

newport is over run sadly... there's prams and pregnant girls everywhere, jewellery all over, baseball caps, socks over tracksuit bottoms, and loud mouths! sigh!
But luckily I live in a student house out of town - on a farm too which is nice, the people here have lots of horses and dogs. The student house I'm in is in a dire state though, mice in the kitchen and bugs in the bathroom, lol. Oh Im giving Newport a bad name - but its in a beautiful valley and its not all bad. I live next to a forest too, so no excuses for not trying foraging.
Foraging is something Im very excited to do, as Ive recentley identified lots of plants that I didnt know what they were before - good feeling.
Nettle soup is something I might do this weekend - woohooo!

Right I feel I have to make you aware of the dangers of wild foods, are you aware now? good  Seariously make sure you know what you are eating before you eat it. I have almost ate quite a few things I should not have, were it not for triple checking I would not be here.

I'm also completely confused by the word 'chav'. I keep hearing it used (had anybody used it more than three months ago?) and every time I think I know what it means, I then hear it used in a context that doesn't fit.

So I've looked at the site bean posted, but I'm still confused - it aligns it with 'townie' and a 'peasant underclass', amongst other things. Now I've been called a townie before... I also go along with John Seymore about peasant culture being different from simply an 'underclass' - I aspire to being a peasant...

I'm getting worried; does this make me a chav?

The way I understand it is that a chav is not always the underclass. You can have thousands even millions and still be a chav. It is more of a way of life , try the chav test and see if makes more sense.

I am 31% chav BTW
