Well, this seems like a good thread to post a green request.
As part of our Self-sufficientish Santa, I am wondering if folks might consider wrapping their gifts in tea towels, hankies, facewashers or pillowcases instead of paper.
I realise this may add to to the cost of the gift a little, but a heck of a lot of trees are tossed away at Christmas time, and I really like trees.

I'm revving up for my usual green christmas!
as far as possible, total hibernation for the whole miserable period! - apart from a duty visit a couple of miles away, it'll be "pull up the drawbridge", sod Christmas!"
I look on in bewilderment at the whole sorry commerce-fest, and know that in weeks to come I shall have to restrain myself from berating the dumbnuts who festoon their dwellings with several kilowatts of blasted flashing lights!
I've got no problem with a religious holiday, and respect those who want to celebrate an important day in their faith, but it's just all the other rubbish that goes with it these days!
And full marks to ESCC! - if people really must give presents, a worm composter would be very acceptable!
Why not make it an "encourage your friends to grow" festival - send your friends a packet of seeds, chosen for their circumstances - get them growing!
