What are you planting now?
What are you planting now?
Hi I just wondered if there is anything I can be planting now? As you may have guessed, I am new to this but really want to grow herbs vegetables and fruit for my family. PLease bear with me if my questions are very basic! I am hoping to get an allotment (well, it's actually half an allotment - long story) off the ground (excuse the pun) this week.
I am eager to go shopping for the allotment but very aware that the whole point of the allotment was to STOP spending as much.
Thanks for all your help, and apologies if this post is in the wrong place...

get digging
Really isn't a lot to be sowing now, but there is still much to do. Get digging before the ground freezes or start planning your raised beds. At this point you have lots of time to get things prepared and can do it in small stages, as digging can be hard work. Also look at improving your soil by digging in organic matter (manure or compost). In late winter or early spring there will plenty to start sowing indoors on a window ledge or in a greenhouse.
Also, get some seed cataloges and start dreaming about what you want to grow.

I got my early garlic (Solent purple) into pots last weekend along with Aquadulce broad beans, these I put into a cold frame. I would have planted them directly out, but my raised beds aren't ready on my new lottie yet.
I will do a second planting in January of both. Not all broad bean or garlic like to have a frosting, some are only really for Feb to April sowing. The ones above do thought.
