Don't you be looking for trouble now!!!!

I'm thinking positively today - we are going to have a good day!! Waiting for the suma order and it's got LOTS of chocolate on it YAYAY!!!!!! We didn't order any last time, and after the hard work of lugging it up the grass slope at the front of the house we really could have done with some... mind you, this order will be 50 kg less than the first one so that will help

Happy Friday everyone

Things have been good since folks, just in need of a moan there really. - had a lovely morning with the family. My sister, my nephew (10 months old) and Dave. The sun was out, both cafes we went to had high chairs (for Dave). On top of that DAve came through with his promise to lend me cash and so managed to pay enough in to cover the Direct Debit.

I had a terrible day, there were no chairs in the cafe so I had to squeeze into a high chair. I couldn't afford to buy anything as I'd lent Andy all my money so just sat and watched the three of them eat and drink while I sipped on my water. Then had to walk home in the rain as I had no bus fare. When I finally got to my house soaked I realised not only did I have the wrong key but I'd walked to the wrong house and was 18 miles away from where I lived. I hitched a lift with a guy that was hard of hearing and he dropped me off in Plymouth. I then had a stroke of fortune as a boat owner told me he was on his way to Bristol. It wasn't until I got onto the boat that he told me it was a rubbish boat full of Plymouths landfill waste. It's now nearly one in the morning and I haven't eaten, I'm covered in seagull shit and I smell like a pub toilet. I'm writting this from the boat owners laptop which has a wireless conection and he tells me we should make it to Bristol by about 8 or 9 am. It's cold, it's dark and it's very wet out here.

Glad Andy had a good day at least.

Dave, I just checked on Google - there seems to be only one Bristol in the world, so you should definitely be heading for home OK.

When I was married to my x - he had very expensive tastes and was completely selfish - we were constantly skint. But it taught me a very valuable lesson - money isn't everything - although having it is good to pay the bills with!!. Once they are paid, and you've had a wee bit of luxury - whats the point? Suffice it to say, my kids fave shop is the local charity shop and if they want something they always say "when its in the sale could we have.......". On the food side I learned to make five meals out of one small chicken, wonderful baked beans, and nettle soup!
As to the having one of those days - I think it depends on how you look at it. One day when I was in a major rush to go somewhere vitaly important I ended up stuck in a traffic jam - fuming! Then I wound down the window - cos it was far too bl@@@y hot in the car and realised that the sun was shining beautifully and that there was a robin singing its heart out in the tree at the other side of the road - a wonderful experience that I'd have missed if I'd been speeding my way to the appointment that was so important I can't even remember what it was!
See - its just a matter of perspective. I'm still skint - but have a much nicer bloke with the same skint tastes as I have and the robin sings in the dog rose bush in my garden, I make rosehip syrup with the hips and feel really rich!!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I'm completely with you. The OH and I went in to Aberdeen a few months back as we needed something we couldn't get out here (I don't remember what).

We were left completely bemused by thousands of people milling about, mobile phones and iPods glue to their head, hands full of plastic shopping bags with stuff most would use only once or twice, people clutching briefcases, computer bags and urban rucksacks, and all rushing, rushing, rushing.

We thought this bad enough when we lived in cities ourselves, but once you've been away from the hyperactive consumer culture that prevails in bigger towns and cities for some years it becomes even more weird and alien.

That's also one of the reasons we still have a TV - an occasional glimpse through the looking glass is enough to to remind us and the boys why we fled suburban and urban life for good.

As for me at the moment, the Wee 'Un is bashing a home-made drum, the window is open behind me so the sun can shine in, and about 20 sparrows are scolding me because they want me to feed the pigs and chickens so they can scavenge away. There's no traffic noise and just the rustling of leaves in the wind.

And I've now finished by green tea and oatmeal biscuits so I'd better get back to "work" - if you can call it that.

The real horror of city centres is at lunch time, when all the office workers come out and you are surrounded by people in suits. Although I only live half a mile from the centre of a big busy town, I rarely venture in that direction. But a while ago I did, and for some reason, all those middle-management workers in near identical suits struck me as just plain weird.
