You want to come up to Scotland - we're on a shower every three days at the moment and use a three-minute timer. (Borehole is getting worse and worse, although the rainwater tanks are now full.)

Okay, it's not as bad as my Dad's girlfriend's experience. In the last big drought in Oz (back in the 80s), her farm had a solar shower outside and set in a tub. The water was pumped out of the tub as each person showered, went through a filter and then stored ready for reheating and the next person.

Only after quite a few showers did the water get refreshed, and even then the dirty water was saved for use in last vestiges of the vege patch.

SEVEN minutes !!! Blimey...

Ok... how long do YOU (everyone) spend in the shower.. for me it's about 2.5 minutes including conditioning my hair when I need to...

David spends AGES in the shower though.. I am always nagging him to shave at the sink instead of in the shower... (are you listening David??!!)

I do take my time when I can i must admit, although the shower itself only for 3-4 minutes I like the locked door, so face pack, hair pack, all go on before I go in! the bathroom is the only sanctuary for mum in my house. We have one of those wind up radio things too,so when that runs out I get out.

it takes me 10 minutes minumum in the shower. I don't know how you can all go so fast!!

10 minutes includes shampooing, conditioning and rinsing, and soaping.
15 minutes includes shaving!!

I'm about 10 minutes as well. Whddya the rest of you do - wave at the water and run?

Something I really can't abide is lolling in the bath with a drink and a book. If I ever feel the need for a bath (once in a blue moon) I put in the least possible amount of water I need to get clean, jump in, clean and I'm out again. The thought of wallowing in my own muck ... yuck!

DH will lay in there till it chills, pull the plug, let some more hot water in to reheat it, and continue to lay until he is as wrinkled as a prune. My sister used to be a good couple of hours in there too.

Me - give me a shower - all sparkly clean and fresh, clean jammies, and reading under the duvet

Our water pressure delivers 3 gallons a minute, so that's nine gallons in three minutes. If I had a 10-minute shower, that's 30 gallons of water gone.

So, a 10-minute shower every day of the year would use 10,950 gallons of water per person. With four of us, that's 43,800 gallons of water a year.

Instead, we each have a maximum of three showers a week at three minutes each, making 1,404 gallons of water per person a year. With four of us, that's 5,616 gallons of water a year.

In other words, we only use 12.82% of what we could use by each taking a 10-minute shower every day. That's an 87% saving!

Of course, there's also the energy saving on heating the water and also pumping it up from the borehole.

Oh, the most efficient shower is the army one. Stand under the water for 30 seconds, then turn the water off. Lather up all over, including hair. Water on for the 60-second rinse. Done.

i don't shower every day!!

Every other day at the most.

I'll try the turning the shower off one and see how long the water is actually running for. Can't be doing without the full shampoo and condition treatment though - my hair's too long and lovely to treat otherwise!

haha, i just realised that if i said on any other forum i'm a member of that i didn't shower every day, there's be replies of 'ew, you stink!'.

Actually, you remind me of when our water was heated by the rayburn in the kitchen. That is what we did back then. I had forgotten that. Now that my water is electrically heated, it appears by magic, stays hot as long as I want, and is repeatable as often as I like.

Isn't it amazing how you lull yourself into believing that you are doing a fair job for non-consuming (gosh - nearly wrote non - consummation!) and then someone comes along and points out you're not that bloody smart after all!

We just stink!

Although we do make sure we're all cleaned up for visitors, although it doesn't last too long for the boys!

I have a shower every two or three days, taking about 10 mins I guess. Full body wash daily otherwise, in a sinkfull of water.

Tonight tho'....I am feeling shivvery and coldie. I am going for a full blown bath. Then the old man will jump in afterwards.

1. too hot here not to shower everyday.
2. We have mains pressure piping and a gravity fed shower, haven't measured but we dont use a lot of water
3. We have an egg timer - runs for 3 minutes - that is as long as I take, can't speak for the others.
4. I Don't sing in the shower - tends to crack the mirror

I don't shower every day either - just when I need it (every 2 or 3 days) - more often in summer. A friend was telling me how she got up, showered, then started decorating her house. Couldn't understand why I queried the need for a shower before she started. Of course, she'd had a shower after she'd finished for the day too...

Takes me 10mins: long, thick hair can't be washed, rinsed, conditioned, rinsed in much less, well, not if the rest of me is to be washed too. But the bathroom is upstairs & with victorian plumbing the water pressure is VERY low. And it gets lower if the neighbour turns their tap on at the same time.
