Today when I was collecting No2Child from nursery, I was informed by one of the other Mums that she was in Turriff (north east Scotland) last night, and they had sleet.

Just thought you'd all like to know.

It has snowed up here before at this time of the year.

Think warm!! :sunny:

My teacher at school said to think of a warm sunny beach while we were waiting for the bus in the cold... I tried it... it didn't work LOL

The farmer across the road has told me, with great glee, about how there's even been snow on Bennachie in mid-summer some years. But that was before global warming...

They also tell the story about the snow arch across the road between our steading and the neighbour's place. The snow was so deep they were able to cut through it, leaving an arch that a tractor could drive under (not one of the big modern jobbies, but a Ford 3000 with cab).

We get stories like that up here, and I often think that they expect this 'soft southerner' to run screaming for more moderate climes when they tell me. Almost like a test.

I find it funny actually - almost a "my weather is worse than your weather" competition. I sometimes win around here because we are on the brow of the hill and we get wind drift and a high wind chill.

I am a self confessed Southern Softie. Sleet or even the written word makes me shudder.

I don't think I'd survive in Scotland. What a wooos!

I have to admit, we moved up here from Bucks on Nov 1st (about 12 years ago now) and I thought I was going to die. Really. I wore so many clothes to bed I could barely move - jammies, socks, dressing gown, several blankets, duvet, and a couple of coats. Have you ever heard that Billy Connelly sketch about the priest coming over to visit when he was a kid, and the kids fighting over the coats in bed? I always thought it was a bit silly till I moved up here.

I would love to live in Somerset, but I can't afford it, there are too many folk and too much traffic.

My husband calls me nesh. Those of you in/from the Midlands will probably know that word.

Anyway, I got used to being much colder inside the house than I was used to - wearing knee length woolen socks makes a huge difference!

Outside is no probs at all because we're usually out there working up a sweat in all weathers. We got used to cold temps the two winters we spent in the Netherlands so the winters near to Geneva were quite warm in comparison! Brittany is a doddle after that.

I am however a complete woos when it comes to bathrooms - I have the paraffin fan heater thingy set to about 24C. I won't take my clothes off and get wet in temperatures colder than that!

I know the word nesh!!

I'm the same M3... maybe not 24C but I hate having a shower in really cold temperatures.

I hate the cold and admit to being a total wooos too! I was determined this year to hang it out for ages before the heating went on but we've had this first snap of cooler weather and Im gagging for it to be put on now lol.

I put the heating on for half an hour in the morning, just to take the chill off. My hands need to seize up before I will put it on again, I just go and shove on another sweater/thicker socks
