The Perfect Cup Of Tea

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

The Perfect Cup Of Tea

Post: # 34457Post Muddypause »

We seem to have touched on this in another thread, so I though it should have a topic of its own.

How do you like your tea?

For me, I'm quite happy with nothing more elaborate than PG Tips tea bags, though for the past couple of months I've been very happy with Fairtrade Organic tea bags.

One single tea bag goes into a medium sized pot, which is filled with boling water and left to steep for a few minutes. This way I get three full mugs of tea out of one tea bag. I guess I like weak tea. If you want me to like you, don't offer me a cup with a teabag floating in it.

Milk, no sugar.

I'm also partial to Early Grey, and occasionally, Jasmine and Lapsang Souchong, but not for everyday drinking.

I must have a morning cuppa - first thing I do every morning is put the kettle on.

I could cope with 2 cups out of one teabag but I rather like my tea strong.

If you ask David he'll tell you that I'm incredibly fussy and want exactly 1004 grains of sugar on the teaspoon and that the mug must be stirred 6 times in a clockwise direction!!

I AM fussy when it comes to tea that's true, but I don't mind the extra grain or ten of sugar and can even drink it without sugar if I'm in the mood. However, I have to have semi skimmed milk, or skimmed but NOT full cream... and not too much of it.

I'm drinking Clipper organic at the moment - I do try to get organic and fairtrade where possible.

I hate stewed tea (sorry Stew !! LOL) - it has to be freshly brewed and HOT, and I can't start my day without my cuppa either. Image

The perfect cup of tea is every morning when Mr Shiney brings it to me in bed. It has to be strong. No weedy stuff for me. (that goes for Mr Shiney too)

during the day, it's usually a Tetley teabag in a big white pint "transport caff" style mug, with two sugars and no milk
Of an evening, a large pot of slowly brewed proper chai, with evaporated milk!
I've recently "done the rounds" of teas again, I "went off" my usual tea, and tried everything in sight, and after a few months have landed back with Tetley :?
One really nice "find" was Waitrose's Kenyan teabags (in a grey box) - a lovely light, fresh, bright, but flavoursome tea, nice "for a change" (but I don't often get to Waitrose) :geek:

Strong coffee at 5.30am made in one of those stove-top thingies. (Spoon out half the dregs from yesterday and add fresh - makes the coffee go further.)

Then green tea a couple of times a day - usually morning tea and supper. I like it stronger than most, so leave the teabag in.

I only drink black tea when working really hard on a hot day - then really, really strong (so much tannin your tongue puckers), black and two sugars. Best made with either Assam or Russian Caravan tea, and with leaf tea - no bags. Even better done over an open fire in either a billy or an iron kettle.

I am exactly the same! It just has to be tea with anything involving bacon - just as it must be cafe au lait or hot choc with croissants and jam!

I'm an instant coffee all day person. My OH is an instant coffee all morning, very strong tea (from bags brought over from England) all afternoon, person.

Yep. Piping hot (tongue burning) medium strong well-sugared tea ( cow juice added) with bacon!
Overall, I probably drink slightly more coffee than tea over the course of the day, interspersed with the odd mint or cranberry tea. Then it's a malted drink or too late evening. Recently, I have taken a shine to redbush (rooibos) tea.

Tea leaves in a pot left to brew for a few minutes - I like it pretty strong but has to have milk in it.

Also like to try different teas, it is good when Emma visits Edingburgh as she goes to the big department store and comes back with loads of speciality teas. Orange peeko is a good one.

I gave up sugar a few months ago and have not looked back, I have found myself drinking more tea.

We do also have tea bags from time to time which are pretty useful in time that the least amount of hastle is required such as hungover.

 I don't drink tea either but I like dunking buscuits in it  I haven't tried the different types of tea so there maybe one I do like but I'm not really a hot drinks fan. I like the chocolate horlicks drink or a nice creamy hot chocolate sometimes but the type you make with water instead of milk - their just not the same. I do like herbal or fruit teas, have some yummy cranberry and apple ones at the moment but I do find they need a spoon or 2 of sugar most of the time. It's good that they are still nice to drink when their cold so if I forget it, it doesn't matter
