biggest extravigance
After reading Den the cats post about guilty pleasures I started to wonder about the biggest extravigance that I have. Many of us here live pretty frugally so things like going to the theatre or exotic holidays are out. My biggest extravigance is buying shirts mainly from charity shops but it has become almost an obsession and I have more shirts than my girlfreind has shoes and handbags I currently have 31 shirts in my wardrobe.

We go camping a lot and bought a new tent this year, even though we didn't really need it...
I felt really guilty, but the new tent is much better (especially since it rained nearly the whole time we were camping) and easier to put up!
We free-cycled the old tent to a young family who were just starting up with the camping, so felt a bit better for it...

Our biggest extravagance is without a doubt red wine!! We should make our own...
We have kept all the bottles though - going to use them in the garden - and the corks too... to do the cork wall... that's a winter project...!!
I should add though that we never go out to the pub... it's a bit difficult when you haven't got babysitters... Haven't been for a night out for 4 years!!!!

It's our anniversary at the end of the month and we will be staying at quite a nice hotel, and we do this every year - that's mine!

Den... going to use some as a border - bury them upside down as an edging.. The OH was wanting to crush some up to make a heat sink like they did on INEBG.
We are going to use some of the bottles to fill up with wine too.
Dibnah... That's not an extravagance tho - that's a good thing to buy!

Yep I will second that, is there not something that you spend your cash on that is not for a practicle purpose other than cheering your self up or just to splash out a bit?Shirlz2005 wrote:Dibnah... That's not an extravagance tho - that's a good thing to buy!

I've been pondering this one. It's probably going to the hairdressers and getting highlights done 3 or 4 times a year!
Something completely unnecessary (unlike a hair cut) - but - it's so cheap here in a little village hairdresser it is hardly an extravagance!
Other than that - hmmmmm hard to say. When something packs up like my ancient computer, I guess buying a new one is an extravagance, but we become so used to replacing our electrical goods that we don't really see it that way.

I think nowadays if I treat myself to a new plant (of the ornamental variety) then that is what I call an extravagance!

Pigs?
Stilling clinging on to the computer, instead of selling it on ebay?
Children?
I think our last extravagance was buying a laptop for the OH, but even then it was only so she could study for her Masters degree wherever she happened to be.
These days, even new socks or T-shirts would be extravagant!

um...my holiday.
Last year i went to China with my dad. This year its India.
I got my travel insurance through climatesure though.
And i'm planting 2 oaks in my friends wood...
But that's got to be my biggest extravagance.
There's also my bed...but i did need a new one...
And i'm getting a new computer before xmas too...but i need one of those!

Now you're talking. My favourites are either Nordic woollen ones or old-fashioned seaboot stockings.bwaymark wrote:Ohhh.... I love new socks... especially woolen knee high socks....Stonehead wrote:These days, even new socks or T-shirts would be extravagant!
Ohhhh.... those look fabulous, stonehead!
I just thought of another.... anyone ever use electric blankets? My mother-in-law bought for her last visit and left it here that Christmas.... for the rest of the winter it was fantastic! I don't like warm rooms much, but getting into a hot bed is just divine!
