Blackberry jam

Post: # 33122Post tremone »

Howdy all,
I was out on Sunday morning gathering up some blackberries. Can anyone tell me how to make blackberry jam or other blackberry concoctions. I see an apple & blackberry crumble on the recipes which I might have a go at.

Fee's Auntie Lin's Recipe

put 3 saucers into the freezer

weigh the fruit, and then put it in a saucepan with just enough water to cover it. Turn on the heat and wait for it to boil.

Then, get an equal weight of sugar to that of your fruit (so, 6lb of fruit = 6lb of sugar) and pour it in and dissolve it all.

Bring back to the boil, and let it have a good rolling boil for about 10 minutes.

Get one of the saucers out of the freezer, adn drop a teaspoonful of your jam onto it. Leave it for a minute or two and then use the back of the spoon to push at the edge of the jam. If it wrinkles, then its at setting point.

Jar, label and date and leave to cool.

You can use pretty much any fruit, and apple and blackberry jam is lovely!

I used up 1 and a half pounds of blackberries and three cooking apples yesterday in pies. Can't wait to add the custard after dinner tonight!!

Cheers Fee, that sounds handy enough but if you don't hear from me on this forum in the next few days, contact the emergency services!!.

Right tonight-off to make jam-tomorrow take over the world using delicious jam to persuade people it's a good idea.

I make blackberry jam In fact i have made over 10lb in weight of the jam

weight your blackberrys wash them and then place in a perserving pan or large saucepan.

turn on the heat and allow them to soften. then add 2lb of sugar to 2lb of berries and cook untill the sugar is dissolved, once dissolved add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and bring to the boil

you will know when it is ready. all you have to do is place a little of the jam onto a saucer and if when cool it wrinkles it done, put into jars and ENJOY
