Self made meals

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Self made meals

Post: # 32467Post Wormella »

Juyst realised the vast majoirty of my lunch - I made from scratch:

home made pasta with the last of my oven dried tomatos, followed by (another) slice of yummy tarte tatain, made lastnight with home made puff pastry.

:angel9:

it's probably the best I've managed - how about the rest of you?

I managed a wholly home-produced meal earlier this year:

Chive omelette, steamed baby courgettes, three leaf salad with radishes, and peppermint tea. Every ingredient grown by us. I didn't even add salt and pepper.

many of my meals are home produced. Corn on the cob with boiled spuds, grilled courgette and steamed beans was what I had the other night. Of late there have been many combinations of these 4 ingredients. In fact we had potato cakes last night, mashed spuds mixed with 1 egg and corriander and chilli peppers then fired for 2 mins. not too bad a bit dry.

Had a stir-fry the other night with home grown broccoli, cauli and snow peas - The noodles I could have made but it was a work night so not enough time!

Bacon, egg and chutney sarnie for lunch. All home-made/prepared including the bread.

Lamb chops, mashed potato (Edzell Blues), carrots (Flakke) and peas (Pilot) coming up for dinner. All ours.

Every time we have Spanish omelette and salad it is all home produced. Most meals come from the garden (pud included) except for stuff like rice, flour, sugar etc.

Nev is a sarnie something rude in OZ?

Sarnies are sandwiches here.

And as for the thread...

I haven't made much from the garden recently, but I have some very nice tomatoes with something for tea!

Butties, please!

I've had a shark sanger in an Australian restaurant that opened in Manchester and closed about 3 months later. The sanger was very good, though. I think Manchester just isn't ready for Australian cuisine yet.

And in some parts of Oz. While Aussies from different states generally have similar accents, they often have different words for the same things. So, a sandwich can be a:

Sanger, sangie, sammie, sandie, sarnie, sando, sanbo, sango, sammo, sammidge and sangwidge.

Having lived in most Oz states, I acquired a vast store of such linguistic curios! And have since added Cockney, South London, Oxbridge, Yorkshire, Scots and Doric words. No wonder my brain is a mess!
