Hello, I'm Barbara. My hubby and I have our name down for an allotment about 10 mins from where we live. ( 12 month waiting lis, hope to have one by December)In the meantime we have become Green Gym volunteers. The Green Gym has 4 allotments combined and is run collectivly and the produce is shared with the volunteers. We are learning how to grow veg and meeting the allotment community. They are a very friendly bunch and very laid back.

Hello there Barboo and :welcomeish:
I imagine that part of you does not want to get an allotment to carry on with the green gym, sounds like a pretty good community idea. Or will you keep up with both?
As for slugshave a look at this thread for some more ideas.

hello from liverpool
Thanks for the welcome and the site about slug control.
I can't wait to get my own allotment, plan it out and choose what to grow. Some of volunteers are on the waiting list, infact a few of the people on the allotment started off as volunteers. Some do stay with the Green Gym because they decide they don't want the commitment of their own, but the ones that move on still help the Green Gym occasionally if they are busy or short handed. I got some red onions and purple bean from the plot and just had them for tea. Onion tart, rice & steamed beans. Does anyone know why they turn green when you cook them.

The beans, you mean? Dunno exactly, but some types of purple pepper revert to green on heating.Does anyone know why they turn green when you cook them.

Re Where about are you
Hi Chickpea, I'm in Waterloo. I've just looked on your beansprout web page and joined the recycle scheme. Sounds like a good idea. I hate to throw anything away.
G'Day Barbara!
