I was thinking (in the strange way that my mind sometimes (mostly) works) that a step up from the copper protection I hear people talking about, would be to electrify said copper.
On looking for schematics for making an electric fence and adapting it to an "Electric slug fence" I came across a product that is already avalible (google "no more snails").
Now I plan to go ahead and make my own version, maybe I will scale down the battery, I was planning on using an old car battery to put out very few milliamps and about 25,000volts but I think that will be overkill, as the no more snails works even with a dead smoke alarm battery. Saying that, it would slightly amuse me to see what a car battery would do.
Anyone come across anything like this before? It would be cheaper as you can use any conductive metal rather than copper which is now very expensive, you would need 2 tracks or bare cables of this though.

Well im not sure yet, still waiting for the paperwork on my allotment, really wanting to start.
Dont like the idea of slug pellets and im more inclined to take the long route of backyard science than the more conventional put plastic bottles over all my seedlings and doing night raids on the slugs.
Plus it will fit in well with my battery powered push bike for commuting and 50% complete solar water heating. I dont think I will rest until the entire street give me funny looks and mutter to eachother "Watch out, I think he is a bit of a nutter" lol
Plus since this wont kill them it should encourage all the other beasties that eat slugs.
