I can only tell you what it grows like for this year, planted half a row of it and 2 came up. I planted it situ though (straight into the ground) so would be tempted to try it in pots on the window sill to start it off next year. Once established it seems to grow pretty well, long growing time though it seems.

Very easy to grow. Fast growing - dependant on variety. Grow/sow like cabbage etc (best started in modules), harvest when it's tennis ball sized (or so).

Taste - juicy, sweet, mild cabbage (bit turnippy too)

Cook - in stews like you would turnip, or steam as a veg on it's own.

Raw - makes great coleslaw or chunked in salads as an alternative to radish, but best dunked in lemoned water first or it'll discolour.

Loads of other stuff you can do with it (google for recipes) and as it grows fast, can be used to fill gaps (both on the plot and in the harvet season)

Hope that helps

What variety are you growing Andy?

Some, like Superschmeltz are slow growing and will grow to the size of a (smallish) football without going woody.

Others, like Azure Star, are fairly quick to the size of a tennis ball (at their best) and then slowly get larger and woody

Kohlrabi is one of my favourite veg - and I've never been lucky with it yet! This year, apart from being incapacitated when I should have been planting it out, the caterpillars got them.

I like it raw - you can eat it just like an apple, although I would probably always peel it first - or steamed in chunks, mixed with carrots, or cooked in a white sauce.
