Romantic evenings with the OH

Post: # 30174Post Stonehead »

Last night - cleaning, chopping, blanching and freezing three large plastic bags of beet leaves.

Tonight - sitting on the sofa, watching an old movie and shelling a 10kg bucket of peas, then blanching and freezing them.

Tomorrow night - cleaning, peeling, dicing and blanching 30 large beetroot, then freezing them.

Friday night - the big night! Cleaning, peeling, dicing and blanching 50 beetroot (Cylindra), then pickling them.

We also had a lovely afternoon together sorting, cleaning and laying out hundreds of shallots for drying, while tomorrow I have something really special planned... score upon score of onions to sort, clean and lay out.

Ah, the joys of living with a gardener! We earthy types know how to win over the girls...

Beats staring at some silly soap on the telly while getting drunk on extra strong lager any day...

Some of the best memories I have of my childhood are the days we spent together as a family, picking fruit, and then sitting out on the patio, cleaning and preparing it for bottling or jam.

Your OH is lucky, Stoney! I have to do all that on my own!

And we've just spent another lovely couple of hours digging tatties - three 10kg buckets of pink fir apples.

So, tonight's dinner will be roast lamb (ours), boiled new potatoes (ours), fresh peas (ours), baby carrots (ours), chutney with the lamb (ours), cider and nettle beer (ours), and then mixed berries (ours) with cold egg custard (ours). I love the self-sufficient life!
