organic solution for caterpillars?

Wow, talk about the sublime to the ridiculous...

As I have part shares in a new allottment I've registered on the Allottment UK forum. I saw a lot of advice on there to "let weeds grow then roundup the whole lot". I was horrified & logged out pretty quickly. Apart from the fact that we're determined to garden organically, as I do at home, I couldn't bring myself to use any product from Monsanto.

So, I come home to SSish & find someone who is equally horrified at the thought of killing caterpillars & slugs, which I do without compunction (slugs that is, tend to relocate big caterpillars, squash the little 'uns).

My nasurtiums are COVERED in little snakes (what Josh calls catapillars) but my veggies have none!
