New season veg
New season veg
Easter Sunday dinner and the first of the new season vegetables.
New potatoes just big enough to be called potatoes and a Spring cabbage.
Not that it's spring weather, it's been lashing down all day.

I've got some lamb lettuce that I pop onto the plate or into a pan of something, I don't use it like a side vegetable but in small amounts . I have to believe it's very nutritious because it doen't taste of much despite descriptions of it having a nutty flavour. can taste buds degenerate with age like everything else ?

Re: New season veg

We've got trusses on the Red Robin - they were the ones we started in the hydroponic unit but proved far too tall. They're well ahead of all the others though.
We also have lots of lettuce - care of the aforementioned hydroponics.

Following on from another thread, it's harvest time for my French beans. We had a small cook last week mixed with some frozen peas, but there's enough for a reasonable helping each for tonight.
This is a good example of free food, the troughs are years old and have paid for themselves by now. The compost is spent compost from last year's potted tomatoes, the seeds are several generation saved seed and even the water is free.

Re: New season veg
We saw this mentioned years ago by someone advocating using small crates to grow tomatoes in then re-use the following year for beans. We've never managed it - the crates are always so chockful of roots we've had to just hack it apart with the spade and chuck it in the compost bin with the rest of the tomato plants. I'm glad it works.
