Natural Predators

Post: # 28247Post Hazel »

I've got loads of chili plants on the go indoors, and they've been doing really well, most have lots of flowers on now and a couple of early chili's are showing through. So I was pretty gutted when I noticed I'd got loads of greenfly on them suddenly :( I'd seen in the organic gardening catalogues that you can buy ladybird larvae to eat aphids so I wandered out into the garden and caught 4 ladybirds. They've been happily munching away all day and two of the plants are now completely free of bugs !

They look so cool, jusy casually wandering over to a bug and devouring it !

- Just thought I'd share :)

That's great, Hazel. I am teaching my kids which minibeasts are our friends and which ones are our enemies. They always take care of ladybirds and worms when they find any.

To be honest I had no idea they'd be so effective ! I'm definately going to use this method from now on .... now I just need them to breed

(How do you tell the difference between the sexes anyway ???)

Well, it looks like I'm not going to need a breeding program anyway, 4 chili plants, 4 ladybirds, 24 hours - job done !

Be free ladybirds ! (until next time)
