Birthday dinner

Post: # 279518Post Odsox »

OK, so it's my birthday today, yet another one !
OH cooked a 3 course dinner tonight and we were well into the main course when it occurred to us that everything was home produced.
It was chicken breasts cooked in ginger, garlic and apricots, one of my favourites, served with broccoli and new potatoes, everything grown here.
Desert course was fresh fruit salad, which was almost home produced, consisting of strawberries, raspberries, the first ripe fig of the season, but then padded out with a shop bought apple.
Oh, first course was an avocado pear for me, but OH had corn on the cob which was one of last year smaller cobs frozen whole.

Had we planned it better or even gave it some thought, we could have had a completely home produced 3 course meal.

The apricots were dried from last year, rehydrated in our own spring water of course

Makes all the hard work worth while at times like this.
Tony

Happy birthday :D There's nothing quite like looking at a place of home grown grub! Eating it is even better :D It tastes all the sweeter knowing you are responsible for what's on your plate.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes (unsolicited, honestly)
The meal was delicious, and more to the point ... cheap.

Thanks Mike, an even older git now.

From me too.
The invitations must still be in the post  - MKG could have brought the booze and I could have provided the bread and cake. :hugish:

Thanks for the kind words, it will make me even more unbearable.

You should have got the invite weeks ago Maggie, I sent it by Funky Pigeon, and as you didn't RSVP I ate all the grub myself.

.... and drunk all the wine. :drunken:

.... and played musical chairs, and won.

.... and won pass the parcel.
