Hot topic

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Hey

We have decided to make some kind of preserved chillie as christmas gifts with all the excess chillies we grew in our new tunnel (apparently we only needed 1 or 2 palnts, not 8)

Looking for some kind of jam or somesuch fo small jars

Any suggestions?

DT he is from Cork, they all talk like that there

What about some whole chilli in oil and garlic and herbs, the oil is then infused with the chilli for using in other hot dishes, or you could put them into vinegar whole, just had some like that chopped onto my pizza. There are lots of recipes for chilli jams and chutneys on tintnernet, or my particular favourite, Harissa pasta, if you obtained some baby food jars, you could do a little medley of chilli based products, thus fulfilling two briefs, giving nice home made presents and disposing of lots of chillies

Ahh. Mustard jars, babyfood jars as you said, those single portion glass jam jars. The condiment and tiny jam jars - you'd have to go round restaurants, hotels etc asking for those. Otherwise, it's a case of buying them but I don't imagine they'd be all that expensive, especially if you were buying a number of them for gifts.

60% Sugar 10% chopped chilli, 30% water/apple juice/Vinegar.
Add Garlic, Salt and herbs etc

That will make you a nice Chilli Jam.

I love Chilli Jam.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
