What about Saskatchewan properties?

They are well cheap 1120 acres for £189,441.82 - that is cheap! I think that the area is sparsley populated. Not an island either but certainly enough land to be more than self sufficient.

I can foresee a tricky technical problem with declaring independence:

If you buy the island first, the purchase will be bound within the law of some administrative authority. If you then declare independence, you will be rejecting the law that made the purchase legal in the first place, and so your legal title to the place will be void. I reckon the way round this might be to invade, rather than buy the island.

More seriously, there was a series on TV a while back (can't remember what it was called) about people who did things like buy their own island, or land in a foreign place, to start a big new adventure. The most memorable of these involved buying an island just off the Mosquito Coast.

Things started off well, but the follow up programme a year or so later showed a lot of trouble had occurred, which included a challenge by some local official about the legality of the purchase, and then some local mafi-types trying to take the island back by force (guns). The family just escaped with their lives, but the husband later died of an asthma attack. The whole thing was a very poignant and tragic affair.

I meant the declaration of independance light heartedly, it would be nice to have a country with no carbon emissions, etc etc, but yeah, not top of the list of priorities. I saw 79 acres in nova scotia for ~£150k, so there are still good properties going.

Sorry i havn't been about recently, i am rather busy playing about making biodegradable tents (glastonbury here i come).
