CSI West Cork (Best CSI in the World)

Post: # 272471Post doofaloofa »

We've got a report from a small correctional facilities for chickens of a double disappearance

I'm a close personal friend of the warden’s wife, so I want my best people on this

Image

First, the time line.

The relief guard came on shift at approx 16:00 hrs to find signs of an altercation, and when the inmates were assembled two were missing, a male and a female (this is a mixed facility)

The attacks took place sometime between 06:30 and 16:00 hrs

A search party found further intense signs of a violent assault having taking place

and
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n50 ... 041616.jpg

The facility itself is an open prison for low risk offenders, though the males do often fight amongst themselves, fatalities are rare

The suspects:

This guy (Jumbo the Gander)

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n50 ... 18cc42.jpg

Is a particularly beligerant, inmate who has a history of assaulting guards and inmates

He had means, motive and opportunity, but with no arms hiding the bodies would be problematic

A recent attack by this character

from a neighbouring facility, resulted in one fatality, but the staff there assure me he is locked down under strict supervision

Witnesses have reported see this individual in the area

Though it does not fit its MO

It could have been an inside job

The only guard on duty was Officer Bess

The Warden vouches for her. says she's a good man if a little lazy

Finally, The Fox is known to operate in this area

Don’t let his looks fool you, this guy is a vicious serial killer, known to have taken and eaten inmates in the past

So it looks like this time the chicken and not the goose was cooked

We lost pretty much our entire flock - including all the RIRs that I hatched this year - to Brer Fox back in February. That was a dozen chickens lost, but only one actually taken and eating. The carnage was appalling. I try to be philosophical about this sort of thing: I've had only two incidents in ten years, after all, and foxy is just doing what comes naturally, but I admit that I would quite cheerfully have bludgeoned it to death if I could have laid hands upon it. It won't have survived long anyway: there's plenty of poultry free-ranging around here and the notion that foxes come only in darkness is not borne out by experience. Trapping and shooting of foxes is permitted (and is usually done in that order) and farmers are quick to act once it becomes known that a fox has arrived in the area. And I'll just have to start again with the flock.

You're right of coarse

Fox takes advantage of poor management and complacency

Here's my badge and gun...

The fox attacked again today, in broad daylight

Luckily the hens were shut up and the geese gave him a run for his money

By the time I had the gun out of the safe and loaded he was gone

next time...

Getting more cocky! What's left of my flock is kept penned during the day - no more shall they go a-roamin'! I wouldn't trust the pen alone to stop foxy if I gave him a night to work his way through, but I'm fairly confident that he wouldn't hang around during the day to dig a hole.
