Hi from Cambridge

Post: # 27010Post Selby »

It's very hot and dry here in Cambridge.
We're in East Anglia, which is technically arid.

I have no allotment, but a biggish dry garden.
The soft fruit and top fruit do very well, so we are self-sufficient in blackcurrants, redcurrants, gooseberries, tayberries, raspberries, plums (Does this sound like bragging to you? I don't mean to). This is because we collect all the shower water and use it on the fruit

Root and leaf veg are very tricky: they just dry out.

Broad beans are good, but peas never germinate.

So, I'm following the Antipodeans and trying hydroponics.

Hello there and welcome selby.

I imagine if climate change carrys on the way it is going then we will have to garden in similar conditions and re-evaluate what we grow.
First we sow the seeds, nature grows the seeds then we eat the seeds. Neil Pye

Doesn't sound like bragging at all - well done with the soft fruit and good on you for using the shower water on them

Hi Selby and welcome to the site.

I have very free draining soil and it is a real pain at times. Maybe we should all be planting cactus! I'd have a lot more free time if I didn't have to water so much. :(

Hi Selby, and welcome to the forum!

Even here in supposedly rainy Scotland it's dry... But like you, we have little problem with soft fruit.

Just as well they taste so nice!
