Green tomatoes
Green tomatoes
How do I get green tomatoes red? In the sun? Put them in the dark? Put them together with an apple? or banana? or what? I know I can make chutney - anything else? I have lots!

Yes, and said drawer in a reasonably warm room. A banana or apple in with them helps too as they naturally give off ethylene gas which is used to ripen supermarket fruit.oldjerry wrote:Put them in a dark, dry, drawer, not touching each other.
Alternatively pull up the entire plant and hang it tomatoes and all, upside down in a shed or garage that's frost free.

Green tomato cake is very nice and an unusual way to use up a few greenies

Thank you. The tomatoes (some!) are now in a drawer in a large egg box with an apple. I have told them to turn red!

What if you're wrong? What if there's more? What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?

Window sill and hope the sun shines - even if it doesn't, if they haven't been affected by blight, they should go red in the end - or dry out :-(
Or this site http://tipnut.com/green-tomato-recipes/ gives you some recipes.
