Hi from the Isle of Islay

I've got a huge thirst for information and am always looking for answers

I breed Highland ponies on the Isle of Islay - due west of Glasgow and about two hours out in the Atlantic - and I cross-graze the ponies with short-tailed sheep. We produce the most fantastic flavoured sheep (Icelandic crosses) and are totally self sufficient in meat - venison, sheep and pigs - as well as fishing for mackerel for much of the summer.

I just did a double-take on your post. I misread it and thought you were cross-breeding ponies and sheep!
Are you able to grow much on the Isle of Islay? Looks beautiful from pictures on the net.

Ha ha - haven't started crossing ponies and sheep yet

Apart from the weekly hurricanes, it's quite mild here in the Gulf Stream. I should grow more than I do, but my raised beds do well during the summer. This year all my garlic got blown out of the soil !
