I could have this rant about horse-riders too. Although since I've moved to suffolk it's been a non-issue. But in Dorset there are horse-riders aplenty (myself included in this) and the amount of times they ride two abreast, don't bother signalling if it's ok to pass, don't bother moving over even when there is a whole queue of traffic. Don't bother increasing their very slow plod up a steep hill you can't see past them to pass on so you're sat on the clutch trying to crawl up in first trying not to rev the engine so as not to spook the horse infront.
They may also ride two abreast if there is an unsure horse and/or rider worried about being passed by a car. But in that situation if there is a safe place to move over they should do so, and if there isn't then it's wise for the outside person to acknowledge the car behind. Also if I was riding out like that then the less sure rider would have a L plate on, or a notice on the back of their florescent tabard saying New Rider or New Horse please pass carefully. All for the rider and horses own safety more than the cars.
A bit of a rant...

my daughter keeps a horse, so am very aware of the dangers of horses on the road - I don't mind in the least slowing right down, and giving them a wide berth - it's good manners........BUT the number I see arrogantly blocking the road, two abreast with the "bloody well wait" attitude is unforgiveable, as is the refusal to acknowledge that you have treated them with respect - it costs nothing to raise a hand in "thankyou", or just a nod.........
When you get one of the arrogant, nose in the air "I'm superior" types, who deliberately blocks the road, and only grudgingly allows you past, then glares down their nose at you - I'm awfully tempted to drop a cog, spin the wheels, lean on the horn, and hope they land in the hedge! 8)

Not very supportive of the whole 'clean air travel' are we?

On behalf of this ragged mob, Andy, I apologise.
