Recently introduced to Mugicha,(Japanese) a tisane (beverage) made from roasted barley, it was decided to make my own.Pot barley was available, but I would prefer barley with the hull still on. The barley was washed, placed on a cookie sheet and roasted in the oven at 375F for about 30 minutes.Colour of the tisane is determined by the amount of roasting. The tisane is made by placing some of the barley in a litre jar of cold water and letting steep in the refrigerator overnight. The product is refreshing and has a pleasant taste and odour. Annotated pictures depict the process.
