What age to slaughter goats for meat

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

What age to slaughter goats for meat

Post: # 263586Post Potter's Farm »

One of our nanny goats produced 2 kids on wednesday, who are destined for the freezer. Our goat book says to slaughter them at 8-10 weeks, but we think that they will be quite small at that age. Has anyone raised their own goats for meat before who could give us some advice?
Thanks, Lisa.

Well , depends what part of the world you're in,but 6-8 weeks,that 's got to be a misprint,or it was written by an Arab.They mature sexually at about 5 months*,so if you want to run them en mass,as it were,that's about the time to do it.

* That's the goat,not the Arab.
