French tarragon

I am well peed off. For two years, I have nurtured my French tarragon. I've put it out in summer and carefully (and tenderly) taken it in over winter. I have talked to it nicely, stroked its ego and, finally, I have this burgeoning thing which makes me feel happy.

Except it's tasteless. Once again, I've been taken in. This bloody thing is Russian tarragon, and I am a tad peeved.

Just thought I'd tell you that. Anyone know where I can get REAL GENUINE French tarragon?

I'd send you a cutting, but I doubt it'd survive the trip.

I find tarragon is one of those herbs that does dry well - would you be prepared to substitute dried?

It won't. MMM kindly sent me some but it didn't survive the journey.

For the first time, having been ripped off several times, I bought some French Tarragon from our local (as in Inverness) garden centre and it's fabulous. It's not big enough to take a cutting from yet but I'm not sure it'd survive the journey from here any better than coming from France - so I'll eat it and think of you (or not )

I don't actually like the taste of mine and wondered if it was actually Russian stuff after all, but it's the same smell as the kind in the garden centre, the dried stuff and in the vinegar. It's just if you taste it raw it's rather unpleasant.

Anyway mine is disappearing which is odd - it used to spread like mad but now it's been colonised by self seeded aquilegias and garlic chives so I guess I'd better dig a bit up and move it before it disappears completely!

It was a shame it didn't like going in the post but I'm glad you have managed to get some, GA.

I've just bought a plant about 18"/45cm high here in Brittany and I'm going to plant it this afternoon. The leaves seem to taste as they should so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's the genuine item.
