destringing broadbean pods

destringing broadbean pods
does anyone know how to do this, i have a lovely recepe for the pods which starts destring the pods. the dip ends up full of strings so i'm obviously not doing it right.

I did broad beans for the first time this year, and I ate the first few beans pods and all - just like french beans, really.
I have a feeling that the later the crop, the less edible the pod will be, and certainly once it is more than the thickness of a small finger I would reckon that the pods are getting beyond it, and should be left for the beans inside to grow. Don't know if they ever become poisonous, though; be interested in hearing more about that.
