I'm pleased with my Coloured Egg layers this year

Post: # 251253Post darkbrowneggs »

Having kept my Marans for many years now, I have suddenly got interested in different coloured eggs. I am really pleased with them so far this year. All being well there should be some for hatching later in the season

This is what they have laid this year

Let us be lovely

Let us be silly and free

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Thanks - is there a way of posting a photo rather than just a link?

They're brilliant. I am very jealous as the fox took my blue egg laying hens in the early summer and I don't have any Marans at the moment either. There's something really lovely about a display like yours.

It's all your fault, darkbrowneggs, you made me remember how much I loved coloured eggs! I collected a trio of Cream Legbars at the weekend, so when they come into lay I shall have blue eggs again.

I think if you reduce the size to 720 pixels wide or less it will come up on the screen as that's the message I've been getting of late when I've tried to post pictures.

Funny the way we find coloured eggs more appetising!. I am told that in the USA it's the other way around and they prefer the white eggs.

Right - worked out how to post photos - Hope its not too big

The darkest brown ones are from my Cuckoo Marans, the greeny ones (don't show well in the photo are from my Olive Eggers, and the blue (again look a bit bluer in real life) are from Cream Legbars . The speckled ones are from my Higgledy Harriets

I am hoping to hatch out some ivory white ones and some more pinky coloured ones this year, and am switching on the inccy tomorrow
