I'm going off Lidl's...

Post: # 24993Post ina »

So far, I could always justify my spending some of my money at Lidl's because, while I'm sure they rip off their producers as much as any other supermarket, at least they didn't rip off their customers with multi-buy offers (plus they had other advantages, as no musac, no "greeters", no fancy retail experience...).

No more! They've just introduced multi-buys. Whereas they used to have a lot of half-price offers, now you have to buy 2 for 1. No bloody good for single households - you feel "forced" to buy more than you need, because otherwise you know you are being ripped off, because obviously they can sell it for half the price. (Actually, I think those multi-buy offers are partly responsible for the fact that 40% of all food bought in the UK ends up uneaten in the bin.*)

Up to now, I sometimes bought those half-price offers - sometimes one, two or even three of that item (particularly biscuits for the office), and always felt fairly treated. I just tried to let them know they've lost a customer, but they can't be contacted by e-mail. I suppose I'll have to get pen and paper out and write an oldfashioned letter...

*According to the new book by J. Blythman - Bad Food Britain. Just started reading it - will review when I'm through.

OOh a new book!! Look forward to reading the review

I think you are right... bogof offers do encourage people to buy more... even if they don't need twice as much. Need to share offers like that with friends.

NO Email for Lidl? Unbelievable.... could always try info@lidl.co.uk and see if that works.

"bogoffs" are also a dire rip-off! The people supplying the food to the supermarkets are "told" that they are supplying double the quantity of an item for the same money - or they lose the account! These offers cost the supermarkets themselves "bog" all! :?

Amateurs encouraged - very keen prices and friendly helpful service!
