And does anybody know a shop that sells Epsom salts? I've tried three shops by now, without success.

My small, local hardware shop stocks Epsom salts. I'd imagine most garden centres would too.

PS Epsom salts is also good for purging chickens.

Have you tried a pharmacy, Ina? You could try under its chemical name, Magnesium sulphate.

cool thanx guys. After a hefty comfy gank does they seem to look a little less yellow but will also try the epsom salts as some bits still are

Another thing is tho......

At the vien junctions (probably a proper name for these) there are pale/whitish bits. Not powdery, just like a translucent filled in V iykwim. like the V from one vein bit to another had a translucent film across it but its not a film that can be touched.....its sort of in the plant but the leaves look otherwise totally healthy!

can you tell I'm new to this!!!!!!

Thanks for all your advice - fourth try lucky, I got some. Neither B&Q nor another (smallish) garden centre had any, and the local hardware shop which I'm sure had it last year doesn't stock it anymore, either. And I've managed to use some on my potted plants in the polytunnel - I think they might all suffer from slightly too acid compost, so it should do them some good.

I second the Epsom Salts. Also, pumkins are apparently fericiously hungry beasts and need a lot of nitrogen I was told. I fed mine pelleted chicken poo. Produced two big pumpkins in the end. Neither Epsom Salts nor chicken poo are instant cures though...may take a couple of weeks.

Powdery mildew is definitely "powdery". Think...someone's dusted the (usually) underside of the leaves with talcum powder. The translucent veins may be part of whatever species it is?
