Hello from Ealing
Hi all from Ealing in London!
I am a beginner veggie-grower and am very much enjoying getting my allotment site off the ground. I am growing: Butternut squash, courgette, aubergine, tomato, basil, dwarf french beans, corriander, rocket, potato, sorrel, strawberries, thyme, oregano, peppers and rosemary - a little bit of everything as I don't have a huge plot.
Judging by the rip-off prices for some of the most basic and easy to grow veggies, I am really going to enjoy harvesting whatever I can from my allotment site.
Its not so much the financial freedom that sparks me but the increased freedom(even if only a small increase) from what I would describe as a subtely-crafted dependence we have on the current system.
Anyway, I am interested in learning more about self-sufficiency so I'm glad I found this site. 8)

Don't jump to any conclusions, be happy with what you know to be true and feel free to question everything.

Hiya Plantmagnet
Nice to meet you ... welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you've got a good selection of stuff in the ground... won't be long before you'll be reaping the benefits either!!

A beginner and you are still growing all that, nice one!
welcome to the forum.
If only we could grow our rent money as well, that would give us a lot more freedom

Hi to you in Ealing - sounds like you've a fair bit of watering to do over the next few months, like us!
If you have any luck with your basil let us know - I can't seem to keep the stuff, if it isn't slugs/other beasties it is over/under water
Maybe it is just personal!
You're in the right place to find dependency on shop-bought veg an outrage I reckon - once you've grown your own for a few seasons it must get even more galling to buy sub-standard, tasteless and expensive fruit and veg - and in nasty packaging too!
All the best...

Thanks for the encouragement!
Some pics I took today.

The Basil I grew inside until(planted around the middle of April) it was leaning over - then I transplanted it(around the middle of June). In the past I have bought Basil plants from the supermarket and tried to keep it going but the plant never lasted.
So we'll see how we go with outside growing.
