Goodness, what a load of great recipes in one thread. Stoney, you should write a recipe book! Sell it to all those weird passer bys.

That's an idea - open a cafe! Yes, the recipe for the harvest cake, please - I only had a tiny piece, due to already full tummy, but it tasted very morish.

As to the wine - how do you bruise barley, if you don't have a proper bruiser? I mean, if I want to bruise myself, I never have any trouble... Throw myself into the corner in the bathroom, or go in amongst my four-legged monsters (aka very fat lambs) - but barley??? :?

There was a belt driven barley bruiser in Scot Ads last week for £50. I already have a Lister with pulley and an electric motor with pulley. So, I'd buy a bruiser, hook it up to one of my engines and away I'd go!

Okay, being more useful - have a look in ScotAds in the equestrian section and look for someone supplying bruised barley. It should cost about £3 a 25kg bag now, £2 just after harvest at the end of August and up until the end of the year, and somewhere between the two between December and about April/May. Rinse it in a large sieve before using it, removing the dust.

There's no way I'd open a cafe or a restaurant. Cooking would then become a job and a chore, rather than a labour of love! I'd also have to accept people complaining...

As for stray shoes, I haven't found any yet. I'll have a look later.

And speaking of stray items, that reminds me of a party many years ago. I'd held a party for work colleagues and at the end of the night (about 3am) I managed to get the last of them out the door. I had a shower and was just going to bed, when I heard a strange gurgling noise.

I had a look around and couldn't find anything, and was about to go to bed again when I heard it again. I looked under the bed and discovered the female manager of another department lying under there - completely out of it! I called her husband (he wasn't pleased at being woken at that hour), who came and collected her, saying "at least she was under your bed and not in it". She couldn't look me in the face for weeks!
