Second best thing to seeing new toms of the season is the smell! Human equilivent of cap nip I reckon - I could roll in the stuff! (not sure my cordons would appreciate it too much though

What variety are those pictured? Look like bush tomatoes but mine are a beef variety...

God yeah! Lush smell!!!

And they are aptly named 'Shirley F1' I think I have about 6 or 7 different types/varieties now thanks to generosity of neighbours and family!

Don't you find the smell of the plant is horrible? I've just been tying mine in and I have to wash my hands straight away after as they reek! Not to mention the black thumbnail from pinching them out.

Anyway, nice photo Jo! Mine are nice and fat and just waiting for them to ripen.

Well, OK, I admit the climate is a bit warmer than where you are.

But, I bought little plants from the garden centre, in April. Had to get them ready to be put outside in big pots in May, cos I was going away mid May.

I'm not normally this far advanced!

Oh I love the smell of tomato plants. It must be one of the best smells on earth. Reminds me of my Granda and Grandma's sun porch - they always grew tonnes of the things but I didn't like tomatoes back then and didn't eat them - what a waste! I did eat everything else from their garden, though, - the peas were my favourite.

Mine have a few buds... Getting there, though!

BUT: I saw yesterday that the first of my strawberries has a distinct blush!

You think that's a good smell? Try putting a single geranium in there with them... essence of grandma's kitchen windowsill! Nice toms there btw!
