Why does this site get so much spam?

Just curious ..........Not that I know a fing about spam apart from the stuff that comes in tins

Compared with other forums we visit this site does seem to get more than its fair share

there are many reasons. One is that it has been here for ages. the software this forum uses is very popular so when a hole in the defences are found loads of spammers jump in and exploit them.

they do it to get links back to there website so they can get traffic or advert clicks or whatever there profit motive is.

I ran a forum on my site for a while and I was really pleased that i had 4 new members. The next day that had gone to 12 and by the week end it was 150. All plausible names then I checked them on a spam database and only one was a real person. I left the forum going for a month and in the end I got sick of deleating over 500 requests to join all from spammers.

One thing this site does have is a lot of good peeps that keep the site virtually spam free........ thank you peep, you know who you are.....
