make a turkey house out of tyres?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

make a turkey house out of tyres?

Post: # 242115Post Mrs H »

Random question I know, however we need a turkey house and we have no money and r landlord sells cars and loads of old tyres......and so the thought process begun!! I know in houses they fill the tyres but we havnt got anything to fill them with so all ideas r gratefully received. It doesn't need to be overly tall really and we have a couple of spare wooden doors that someone gave us. To be honest I'm struggling with ideas for the roof!! Xx

you could make rammed earth walls with the tyres. Stack them layer by layer filling them with earth and ramming it in hard with a post/lump hammer. Overlap your next layer as in brickwork. use smaller tyres to infill at the door. if you make a circular building, you won't need to worry about corners. The roof could be covered with a Tarpaulin and pole arrangement (Like a shallow teepee).
