Something doesn't like chicken in this household
Not the most catchy of topic titles I grant you....
Week 1 - bought organic chicken from well known supermarket (yeah yeah I know..read on) -bought it home, stuck it in freezer for sunday lunch, took it out friday night, left to defrost. Awful smell starts. Investigation ensues. Chicken completely rank.
Week 2 - try again. Same scenario. Bung it in freezer. Freezer breaks down. Chicken rots.
Week 3 - decide there must be something 'with' organic chickens so buy locally reared but free range one. Make lovely veg to do with it. Put chicken in cooker. Cooker blows up.
I dunno, but do you think the chooks are trying to tell me something? Chicken JuJu?

Suspect some FOWL play somewhere along the line (sorrrry)
Freezer - have you claimed on insurance for the contents of the freezer cover??
Weird about the supermarket chicken... must say that I don't freeze them but eat fresh. Have you checked your fridge temperature is cold enough?
I have stopped buying the organic supermarket chicken as I don't find that it tastes of very much anyway. We had a locally produced free range (Maryfield) bird recently and it was DELICIOUS. Even had the giblets with it.

Have to freeze stuff Shirley, we only do a shop once a week (and now, once a month) and no way will chook last a week. Fridge is just under 3 deg C and freezer at -19 degC.Shirlz2005 wrote:Suspect some FOWL play somewhere along the line (sorrrry)

Just seems that any kind of chicken be it supermarket organic or free range local just doesn't want to be eaten in this household. God knows wha'll happen when we start knocking off our own birds..

I can just see you running after them, first through your garden, then after the escaped bird down the village street, wildly swinging an axe...Hillbilly wrote:God knows wha'll happen when we start knocking off our own birds..
Stick to eggs? Become vegetarian, and sell the male surplus?

This site is a very good excuse for stopping for a cup of tea

 at the axe swinging.
Male birds are going anyway - no cockcrowing here at 4am - neighbours view us with a dubious eye as it is let alone having the blokes singing at dawn.
Vegetarian - could I? Again? I was thinking about it..
in the meantime shall set up some anti-JuJU charms and I've given the chooks extra rations just to stay on their good side...y'never know..
