...get rid of several tons of rubble?
I have several tons of rubble in my garden, right where my veg patch is going to be. Several Problems, firstly it's no use for hardcore as its full of all sorts of other rubbish that the previous owner didn't want. Secondly It's a fair distance from the road, so getting anywhere near a skip (if I had the money for a skip that is) would be a back breaker in a wheelbarrow. Lastly I checked the local tip, and they have a weight limit per month on rubble, so it would take decades...
Any suggestions?

Only the obvious, slowly sort the rubbish from the rubble - rubbish to tip, rubble use as hardcore for paths, shed or patio bases, or if useable bricks for other constructions, cold frames or whatever

Raised beds over the rubble, if you can level it a bit?

You might try offering it on freecycle.... somebody might need it to fill a 'ole
other than that... hire a skip and be done with it (it'll cost a few hundred though)

You could look for Tom Dick and Harry and put it down there.
Or break it up and put it in your pockets every time you walk the dog, engineer a string to open your pocket inside your trouser leg to scatter the dust without anyone noticing.
OR you really have two choices,
1. Move it a litte bit out the way, then in 6 months move it again, repeat at least 10 times, then buy a skip and dispose of it.
2. Buy a skip and persaude a few friends and family to come and lend a hand, it'll take no time, and it will get rid of that awfull gnawing sensation in your gut every time you think about doing it!
Honestly from experience of procrastinating I think the action now is the best option. Even if you just buy rubble sacks and stack them then promice once a month to take 5 sacks to the Tip. If you can get the sacks to the road edge try a "hardcore free to collector" as well. Again try and get help if at all possible, it's the sort of Job me and my wife can do in a couple of hours, but would take me a week of looking at, and two days to do, don't know why, but working with someone increases motivation expenentially.
Best of Luck, and I am not mad, you just need to have watched the Great Escape!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

I had a similar problem a while ago. After trying to dig it for two days, I hired a digger and dumper for £120 and cleared it in two hours. Hire one and save yourselves loads of back breaking work, even if you have not driven one before they are easy. People pay to go to digger land.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I think the solution is probably a combination of all of them.
To give an idea of what I am dealing with, the pile is about 4 feet high, 18 feet long by 10 feet wide.

10 minutes with a couple of carrier bags then.

it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Sound like it a fallen down house that needs rebuilding. That's what I would try with the council.Silas (son of Silas) wrote:Thanks for the suggestions all. I think the solution is probably a combination of all of them.

Re: ...get rid of several tons of rubble?
Someone's just advertised rubble ('suitable for footings etc') on our local Freecycle and it was taken within hours. Mind you, that's a heck of a lot of rubble...
Re: ...get rid of several tons of rubble?
hire a man with a JCB, we pay about £25 per hour for our local guy and skip to take it away, last time i hired one was about £150. dont risk doing it by hand, your back is worth an awful lot more!

Flatten it down a bit so that it's slightly lower and a bit wider, whack it solid and level, then concrete over the lot to create a raised patio.
