My 'job' as the wife in the relationship is to be here whenever he needs me, to give him a kick up the backside whenever he needs one, and to help him achieve his dreams.

Although I do most of the household tasks, I don't see that as my wifey role, same as I don't see it as his role to go out to work.
as above.

but also to be really really filthy when needed.
Oh, of course. Thought that went without saying

I'd guess not spilling paint on their laptop keyboard might be a good one too. One which I have failed at this evening.

Awww Richie is a softy- and quite right too. I think a lot of people have touched on what I would say but the thing that I think makes a good wife is communication and equality- if your communication is shot then nothing can be "good" with the marriage.
My husband and I (which I always hear in my head in the Queen's voice-although actually I think it might be Maggie Thatcher's voice now I think about it) are best friends and present a united front when problems arise (children, lawyers etc) and help each other when we can he does the cars and heavy lifting and I do the cooking and hoovering but he does the laundry, no-one irons, we both wrangle the children this is how we like it but I wouldn't say that a good wife "has" to do the cooking and hoovering.
I think my husband would also add having great legs and being able to cook.

It's so funny, when I read this title I kind of bristled with the old feminist side of me somehow arising out of somewhere long hidden!

I laugh about it these days cos I am a contented housewife, something I swore I would never be in a million years.

However in my marriage it's my husband who does the ironing, AND has the warm feet. However I don't need his feet anymore as my electric blanket is miles better!

My feet are always freezing, as are my hands. In winter my other half won't let me anywhere near him until I've warmed up my hands a bit by rubbing them together, he says I've got the touch of death.

I do iron but only seams when I'm quilting  .

Seems, although the question was directed towards the husbands, that wives have more to say on the subject. Perhaps men think the secret to a happy marriage is not to say too much.

Quoting Dolly Parton

"A Lady in the lounge,
A gourmet chef in the kitchen
And a whore in the bedroom ....."

Turn the question on its head, what makes a good husband? Not something I think about much, as I'm absolutely certain that I am .... My lady may have a different opinion however,

Love and Peace

But lets that greater thief go loose
Who steals the Common from the goose.

My daughter made a statement years ago...........
If you have not got time to love and tender a plant, then you have not got time for a relationship.
That's the secret having time for each other

I'd have to add to all of this that the perfect wife is a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. My husband is happiest when I am happy with myself(and it doesn't cost a penny  ) This works the other way round too

Its been so great reading all the replies to this thread! Definatly in r gaff I do all the washing etc but I'm so happy doing it, I love looking after him! He's my best friend and my lover and its great. We spend 24/7 together and I'd miss him if that changed now. Don't get me wrong of course we bicker occasionally and sometimes his laid back attitude can send me insane but I wouldn't change him!!!xx
