There's this one in words too just in case you haven't got a thing to download the podcast to (I am low tech and have to do it by running round with a little stop watch from argos).

Good luck with it pbf! I have to confess I had to practice a bit before I could even do week 1. As a side effect though I have been able to stop taking my asthma inhalers since I started 'running' (only v mild asthma to start with, but nice to be able to give up the steroids).

Susie, being able to give up the inhalers is marvelous! Well done! I am doing a lot more walking, but it is good to have some sort of structure. pbf.

Can I share a very minor success(ish). Those of you who are actually fit are going to roll your eyes  . I am doing couch to 5K and am on week three at the moment, and today managed to run for 3 minutes all together without collapsing/ feeling terrible at the end (you don't just run for 3 mins and then go home and eat a pie, you do a few more running blocks but 3 mins is the longest). I am thrilled! (I know that sounds crap. Look, I'm really unfit ;-) ).

Graye, that's brilliant about the blood pressure tablets.
We tried that and got to about 15 minutes of the first week and said "sod it, where's the pies" so well done on the success

Dont get too smug!!

I too could eat anything ( chocolate, cakes, biscuits - anything!) and stay the same weight (8 1/2 stone) from my twenties to mid forties

Then i stopped pushing baby buggies up our steep high street - my weight went up a little but was managable
then i hit the menopause - weight crept up a little faster
then i stopped doing the school run -- round trip of 1 1/2 miles twice a day -- weight just kept on going up n up -- and its been a struggle ever since

So your time might come yet!

In the meantime -- for those of us struggling -- dont forget that a loss of 1 lb per week might not seem much, but if kept up for a whole year its over 3 1/2 stone !!! And the slower you lose the weight, the longer it is likely to stay off!

And well done PBK !! keep up the good work
Just shows you the amount of exercise we do each and every day without thinking about it.

Big Al, you're a bloody inspiration :salute: :salute: :salute:

Keep up the good work, everyone (oh, and Giz - 7 stone is ridiculously underweight unless you're a dwarf).

Thanks for the compliament Mike, Sadly it's hard won and not too sucessfull as it's been a 25 year battle with weight since breaking my back way back in the eons of time also known as 1986.

OK, howsabout a new challenge.

Who said howsabout??

Anyway how about a new challenge each week?

A couple of posts up there Marmalady says she does less exercise now than in the past in a normal daily routine and I comment that we don't realise what exercise we do in our daily lives.

So keeping it all friendly How about I set a challenge each week and you all follow it slavishly ?

If so, and you don't need to partake of the challenges if you don't want to or your doctor etc says no... but now it's mentioned how about the task for next week Saturday 25th to Friday the 1st of July is to is to write down every thing you do exercise wise...

You can substitute the wild rampant sex for something less exciting if you want.... but include things like washing the dishes at a sink, housework, hoovering etc include walking around the garden cutting the grass, weeding the borders playing with the kids and dogs etc. Also you can include the gym / running / step classes exercise type as well but keep a diary type with say columns titled

Date,

Exercise type

Aproximate Duration

Then next week we can tot up the totals and I'll try to get some info on basic types of exercise so you can see what calories you've burnt. That can help by focussing your mind to doing a certain exercise to gain the most benefit etc.I shoot recurve bows and one can think that there is not much exercise in Archery but compound bows can shoot an arrow 300ft plus so you have to walk that distance to a target to retrieve your arrows and then walk back. you might shoot upwards of 32 rounds of 12 arrows in a practice night or 12 rounds of 12 in a competition. You have muscle strength, core stabillity exercises, and of course having to stand up all the time exercises your bottom and legs.

If anyone has possible challenge subjects then pm me [ so no one gets an advantage] and I'll see where we can fit them in.

I walked - briskly - five and three quarter miles Sunday morning. A twenty minute "power" walk Monday, Tuesday and today, Wednesday. I have gardened four hours a day, minimal housework, cooking etc. a bit of a "dung out" today as I have friends coming to tea. Quite a bit of watching tennis! but knitted at the same time! Rest of the week will be much the same. pbf.

hooray!

after a slight blip last week, i have lost 2 lb this week :)

Now down to 11 st 2 lb --so my initial goal of under 11 st is most definitely in sight!

Of course, then i will have to set my next goal of under 10 stone, but i might allow myself a little treat first!

Glad to see folks coming back, I was beginning to feel a bit lonely here!! Still walking every day, even in the rain, horrible! Did we start this after Christmas? If so it is definitely a slow old haul! pbf.

just to be an ogre.... treats can be adictive ,lol.

Rather than set a goal of under 10 stone why not set a goal of 10 st 7 pounds.. it will be easier to achieve and you get another treat when you get to 10 . 6...

Well done anyway.
